Pajamas are an easily forgotten item when it comes to packing. So, if you’re struggling to decide what to pack, these are the best travel pajamas for women as recommended by TFG readers.

What to Pack for Sleepwear for Travel

Table Of Contents

Many TFG readers wonder why I never include pajamas in the packing lists. The answer is that they are not part of the essential capsule wardrobe items. I count them as extra pieces of clothing. Ideally, the pieces you choose could also be worn for other activities — not just sleeping.

However, while pajamas are an easily forgotten item when packing for a trip, they’re the item you’ll be wearing most often, so it makes sense to make sure you pack something that feels comfortable, cozy, and breathable.

Our readers say that they usually pack a lightweight and breathable sleep set or nightgowns for summers and cozy fleece sets in the winters. A lot of readers also like to bring loungewear that doubles as pajamas.

We take a closer look at their suggestions, and we also suggest pajamas based on the weather where you’re traveling and the kind of accommodation you’ll stay at. What you choose will help you pack light!

Readers’ Picks for Best Travel Pajamas for Women

TFG readers are always letting us know what their favorite products for travel are and travel pajamas (or pyjamas in the UK) for women are no exception.

Before we get into the ultimate guide to the best women’s pajamas, we want to share with you the top travel pajama pieces that TFG readers recommend:

You can also get away with packing and wearing a dedicated set of travel pajamas, because you’re more than likely traveling for a shorter period of time and have a tad bit extra room in your bag!

If you’re looking for a pair of wicking travel pajamas and aren’t sold on short sets or the long-sleeved shirt and full-length pants, then we recommend the Cool-jams Capri Set.

TFG readers think these are some of the best travel pajamas for women due to their wicking material that absorbs moisture and keeps you cool and comfortable all night long. They have a natural anti-bacterial treatment that keep them smelling good during your trip — which is a bonus if you’re on a longer journey and you won’t be able to do laundry as often.

Feeling cool and comfortable can be important for women going through life changes, like menopause, or for women who simply run hot at night. If you’re looking for something in between shorts and a long-pant pajama, then this capri set is a great travel pajama choice.

Sea to Summit Premium Silk Travel Liner

Pair a Sleep Sheet with Your Pajamas for Extra Comfort

A good set of travel pajamas can make all the difference in how well you sleep on vacation, especially when in colder or hotter climates.

But besides pajamas, many TFG readers also use a sleep sheet during their travels for added comfort. Sometimes, one wants an extra soft layer in a hotel or Airbnb, while at other times, if you’re planning to stay in a hostel or other shared budget accommodation, a sleeping sheet can help you avoid bed bugs. I’ve only seen bed bugs a handful of times myself.

The first time was during my round-the-world backpacking trip when I stayed in a CHEAP backpacker hostel in Fiji. I put all my clean laundry on the bed, then brought the bugs with me on the flight to New Zealand. I washed my clothes as soon as I got there, and cleaned my bag, and had no more issues. And I learned to never put my clothes or luggage on a bed.

The next time I encountered bed bugs, I was in a small guest house in Phuket, Thailand, where I woke up to see them on the fabric headboard. Gross. They moved me to another room and, luckily, I didn’t see them.

Regardless of concern about bed bugs, I’ve ALWAYS slept in a sleeping liner (either silk or synthetic) to keep mosquitoes from biting me, which has worked extremely well. It can be a bit hot, but if you stick to a breathable bamboo or silk liner, it’s worth not getting bitten by any or all bugs!

If you’re keen to explore a sleeping liner more, we’ve broken down the best travel sleep sheets worth packing!

If you want extra precautions when it comes to bed bugs, learn how to avoid them while traveling with these helpful tips!

How to Choose the Best Travel Pajamas

best-travel-pajamas-for-women

The silk Sioro Travel Pajama Set is versatile and comfy!

The pajamas you choose for your travels is variable and can be influenced by the following factors:

  • What time of year are you traveling?
  • What type of accommodation will you be using?
  • Are you traveling alone, as a couple, with family, or friends?
  • What type of pajamas do you usually sleep in?

Some people don’t wear clothing to sleep, but you might want to reconsider that when traveling.

One TFG reader says, “I never take anything that doesn’t multitask, and having been in two hotel smoke evacuations in wee hours. I sleep in something I can wear outside: t shirt dress that doubles as swim cover up or bike shorts/yoga pants with a tee.”

When it comes down to it, you have to decide what makes the most sense for you.

Another TFG reader says, “I say, wear whatever is comfortable to bed, and additionally pack a sleeping bag liner/sleep sack to feel better protected. If the fire alarm goes off, you can wrap it around you like a blanket for extra coverage.”

Usually, I recommend your choice of pajamas double as regular clothing, if needed. The main thing to consider when choosing sleepwear for travel is to choose lightweight items that are easy to pack, and at least a top, bottom, or both could double as casual wear as well.

A travel capsule wardrobe helps you pack light!
